Question 48 · End Times

What does Jesus teach about the Great Commission and the end times?

Biblical Background

Jesus commands His disciples to spread the gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:18–20), and He states that the end will not come until the gospel is preached to the whole world (Matthew 24:14). Evangelism is therefore directly connected to the unfolding of God’s plan.

Historical Context

The early church spread rapidly throughout the Roman Empire and beyond, driven by Jesus’ command and the urgency of His return.

Theological Meaning

The Great Commission reveals that mission is not optional—it is central to God’s redemptive purpose. Jesus includes His followers in the global invitation to salvation. The end times motivate mission, and mission accelerates the fulfillment of God’s kingdom. Every believer participates in this unfolding story.
