Question 151 · Salvation

What does the New Testament teach about Jesus as the source of salvation?

Biblical Background

The New Testament consistently proclaims that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone. Acts 4:12 states, “There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Jesus Himself declares that He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Salvation is found not in human effort, ritual observance, or moral achievement but in the person and work of Christ.

Historical Context

The early church preached Jesus as Savior in a world filled with competing religious claims. The apostles announced that forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life were available through faith in Jesus, whose death and resurrection accomplished redemption.

Theological Meaning

Jesus is the source of salvation because He is both God and man, uniquely able to bridge the gap caused by sin. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He defeats sin and restores humanity to fellowship with God. Salvation flows from His grace and is received through faith.
